Falconwood Bed and Breakfast is an ideal location for anyone visiting the Western Lake District. As well as the enjoying the perennially popular nearby lakes and fells such as Ennerdale, Loweswater, Crummock, Buttermere, Bassenthwaite, Whinlatter and Skiddaw and the stunningly beautiful Solway coast, there's plenty more to see and do.
Just 7 miles to the East is the market town of Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth with it's tree-lined streets, museums, galleries and shops. Just a two minute drive west takes you to the historic town of Workington. Once a ship building port, today the town has become the Western Lake District's leading retail centre, with a wide range of national stores and chains as well as a new multiplex cinema and bowling alley. The breathtaking views across the Solway Firth to Scotland make the coast road north to the Victorian town of Silloth a journey not to be missed travelling through this 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'.
The attractive port towns of Maryport and Whitehaven, around 6 miles to the north and south (respectively) afford a wealth of charm in their harbours and marinas. Attractions such as the Aquarium and Roman Museum at Maryport, The Rum Story and Beacon at Whitehaven, make both these towns worth more than a quick visit. And south of Whitehaven, Muncaster Castle and The Ravenglass and Eskdale Minature Railway are popular attractions also well worth a visit.
Whatever your choice, the Western Lake District affords a wealth of beauty, tourism and leisure attractions. And not to be missed when visiting Falconwood, look out for some of the most breathtaking sunsets likely to be seen anywhere in the UK.
